Can’t blame them. It’d probably be pretty expensive for not so many sales.

Ford have pulled out of more places too. Belgium in 2014, the UK (vehicle assembly) in 2013. They’ve been expanding in cheaper places like Turkey instead.

It used to be a lot of sales :( The market transitioned to SUVs, but local manufacturers struggled to adapt.

Technically it was yesterday, it’s currently Saturday morning in Australia ;)

Sad day. My dad had a number of Falcons, currently has a Falcon-based Territory. But the buyers aren’t hit as hard as the workers - they’ll just buy something else. Their other car is a Ranger.

The Commodore is next.

That’s sad. I thought that it was supposed to last until the next year. One of my friends (whom I haven’t been in contact with for years) worked in their suspension development department.

Ye’, it was a massive end of an era for Ford Transit production to move from the U.K. to Turkey.

I wonder if they will develop their own SVT to tune the cars they’ll be getting.

The solution to that problem is to start selling them outside Australia.

In 2015,  94,725 Chargers were sold in the States, along with 53,109 300s . Not insignificant numbers, but not exactly a giant market. Throw in the fact that Ford would have to design the Falcon to meet American safety and environmental standards, as well as designing a left-hand steering version, and then importing all of the vehicle sales from Australia. For that, it would probably end up being over $40,000 USD and then take from Taurus and Fusion sales (however lacklustre Taurus sales may be).

For reference, the G8 only ever sold 38,159 cars (over two model years), and the SS has only sold 7,945 cars since it was introduced in late 2013. So, to Ford, they probably look at those two vehicles and sees a market that’s not worth investing in, considering the fact that GM doesn’t seem to be having the best time with importing vehicles from Australia. It just doesn’t make sense to sell the Falcon in North America.

What really needs to happen is for safety and emissions requirements to be standardized around the globe to allow for manufacturers to easily sell all their vehicles in any market. Never going to happen but it would be nice.
